Varsol Bioremediation

This project involved the cleanup of Stoddard Solvent (Varsol) at a commercial redevelopment site where the client required that remediation activities not interfere with ongoing site construction. RCC designed and executed a bundled remedial approach incorporating both targeted excavation and engineered bioremediation to address a complex mix of contaminants and subsurface soil conditions.

Shallow soils containing metals were selectively excavated for off-site disposal, while deeper low-permeability soils—unsuitable for in-situ treatment—were similarly removed. A subsurface distribution network consisting of 151 injection points was installed and connected via underground piping and conduit to a centralized off-site remediation system plant. This infrastructure enabled continuous delivery and optimization of bioremediation amendments throughout the treatment zone.

All work in the redevelopment footprint was completed on an accelerated schedule, allowing construction to proceed without delay. The approach successfully met cleanup objectives while maintaining site accessibility, and the property owner has since continued with retail development unimpeded by remediation activities.
